When we talk with others who claim to be Christians and who believe we cannot have eternal life now, we should ask them, “Are you a sheep or a goat.?” The answer is sheep. Then I would ask, “Do you have eternal life today?” The answer usually is no. You can ask the person this question, “What did Jesus give His sheep in John 10: 28?” Some people might respond by referring to Matthew 10:22; 24:13 or Mark 13:13 by saying, “He who endures to the end will be saved.” Take notice what Jesus actually says, “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Jesus does not say you have to endure to the end. How does one endure to the end? Jesus tells us four things in John 10:28-29. One, Jesus gives his sheep eternal life. Two, His sheep will never perish, Three, no one can snatch His sheep out of His hands. Four, no one can snatch His sheep out of the Father’s hands. The true sheep do not endure to the end on their own efforts. The sheep endure to the end because Jesus and the Father will keep them until the end. As well, they will be saved at the end because Jesus gave them eternal life.
John 10:25-29 says, "25 Jesus answered, 'I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.'"
In John 10:25-29, Jesus echoes the will of the Father in John 6:37-40,44-47,65.
“’37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.’”
44 “’No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets,’ ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ ‘Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— 46 not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.’”
65 “And he said, ‘This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.’”
Jesus’ taught that it is the will of the Father that Jesus lose none of His sheep. We who are His sheep, will endure to the end because it is the will Father that Jesus lose none of us. We will endure to the end, not because of our own efforts, but because of the will Father.
