"WISHY WASHY" NEW LIGHT
As the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society received "new light," it warned Jehovah's Witnesses not to have confidence in "wishy washy" persons who went back to believing the doctrines that were determined to be in error. This warning was given in The Watchtower of May 15, 1976 on page 298: "It is a serious matter to present God and Christ in one way, then find that our understanding of the major teachings and fundamental doctrines of the Scriptures was in error, and then after that, to go back to the very doctrines that, by years of study, we had thoroughly determined to be in error. Christians cannot be vacillating--‘wishy-washy'-- about such fundamental teachings. What confidence can one put in the sincerity or judgement of such persons?" The Watchtower organization is guilty of being "wishy washy." An example of this can be seen in the following quotations.
"Studies in the Scriptures," volume 1, The Divine Plan of the Ages, 1913, page 250: "Evil as these Gentile governments have been, they were permitted or ‘ordained of God' for a wise purpose. (Rom. 13:1)"
"JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES IN THE DIVINE PURPOSE," 1959, page 91: "There were many false doctrines and practices that had not yet been cleaned out of the organization. Not all of them were recognized at once, but gradually over the years that followed it became evident to what extent the brothers had been in Babylonish captivity at that time. With considerable misunderstanding they had accepted earthly political governments as the ‘superior authorities' that God had ordained according to Romans 13:1;..."
"BABYLON THE GREAT HAS FALLEN,"--GOD'S KINGDOM RULES, 1963, page 548: "In spite of the end of the Gentile Times in 1914, God permitted the political authorities of this world to continue as the ‘higher powers' or the ‘powers that be' which are ‘ordained of God.'"
Is this "wishy-washy" or what? The Watchtower gave this response to the claims that it had been "wishy washy" in The Watchtower-December 1, 1981, page 27: "However, it may have seemed to some as though that path has not always gone straight forward. At times explanations given by Jehovah's visible organization have shown adjustments, seemingly to prevent points of view. But this has not actually been the case. This might be compared to what is known in navigational circles as ‘tacking.'" As we have seen, it HAS as "actually been the case." After what we have read, can we trust the following Watchtower's statement?
The Watchtower-December 1, 1981, page 27: "Unless we are in touch with this channel of communication that God is using, we will not progress along the road to life, no matter how much Bible reading we do.
"Regarding God's channel of communication, Jesus said that the ‘faithful and discreet slave' would provide spiritual nourishment at the right time for all his followers and that he would set this ‘slave' over all his belongings." Can the Watchtower be trusted to "provide spiritual nourishment at the right time"?
The reason the Watchtower gives for its doctrinal changes is that the light is getting brighter and brighter. Does this mean that the fundamental doctrines of the Scriptures today can be in error in years to come?
Dear Jehovah's Witness, I encourage you to get a new navigator for your life. The best navigator is Jesus, who "is the same yesterday and today and forever," Hebrews 13:8. Dear Jehovah's Witness, you can know that you can have the testimony of eternal life. 1 John 5:1,9-12 has this to say about the testimony of eternal life: "1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life" (ESV) I hope Jehovah's Witness that you will consider the words of John.
