Columbo: Hello Frank
Frank: Hello Columbo
Columbo: Did you look up what the will of Heavenly Father is in John chapter 6 and 10?
Frank: Yes. Jesus talks about the will of Heavenly Father in John 6:38-40. “38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Also, Jesus says in John 10:25,28-29: “25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.” “28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.”
Columbo: What is the will of the Heavenly Father, Frank?
Frank: My bishop found four things that relate to the will of Heavenly Father. One, the will of Heavenly Father is that Jesus should not lose anything that the Father hath given to Jesus. Two, those that Father gave to Jesus have everlasting or eternal life.
Columbo: Is there a difference between everlasting life and eternal life.
Frank: No. You can do a word search of everlasting life on the church’s website, and it will direct you to eternal life. The third will of Heavenly Father is that no one can pluck the sheep out of the Father or Jesus’ hands. The Fourth will of the Heavenly Father is that the sheep of Jesus will never perish.
Columbo: Do you believe in the four wills of Heavenly Father?
Frank: Yes.
Columbo: Do you have eternal life now?
Frank: No. The Gospel Principles: Chapter 47: Online says: “If we prove faithful to the Lord, we will live in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom of heaven. We will become exalted, to live with our Heavenly Father in eternal families. Exaltation is the greatest gift that Heavenly Father can give His children (see D&C 14:7).”
Columbo: Frank, in John 5:24;6:40 and 10:28, eternal life is talked about in the present tense. Why do you not have it now Frank?
Frank: In one of our scriptures, Doctrine and Covenants 14:7 online says: “7 And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.”
Columbo: According to Jesus and the four wills of Heavenly Father found in John chapter six and ten, is keeping the commandments and enduring to the end a requirement for eternal life?
Frank: No. However, Jesus said, you have to endure to the end to be saved.
Columbo: Jesus did not say you have to endure to the end. In Matthew 24:13, Jesus says, “13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” If the four wills of Heavenly Father are true, then a true believer or sheep of Jesus will endure to the end. We can endure to the end because of what Jesus does for us if we are His true sheep.
Frank: I understand what you are saying Columbo. Did you read chapter 14 of Gospel Principles?
Columbo: Yes. There are a number of things you have to do to get eternal life according to Gospel Principles. I did not see those requirements for eternal life in the Bible.
Frank: Columbo, you gave only a few verses from the Bible.
Columbo: Frank, I have more verses. John 3:36; 1 John 5:9-13. Does your God contradict himself in your scriptures?
Frank: No, He does not. You have so many questions Columbo.
Columbo: Okay. Oh, there is just one more thing. This seems like a silly question. Do you believe on the Son of God?
Frank: Uuh! Yes, of course I do. Why do you ask?
Columbo: Please read John 3:36 and 1 John 5:9-13. We can discuss them the next time we meet. Merry Christmas.
Frank: Okay Merry Christmas as well
