“Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.” Acts 10:47-48
Andres Landeros
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John 3:5
Christian Witnesses
@Andres Landeros were these people Born Again Believers prior to verse Acts 10:47-48?
Andres Landeros
@Christian Witnesses no. They only received the spirit and spoke in tongues but were not born again in the manner that Jesus said in John 3:5 of water and spirit. There is also another case in Acts 8 where the people were only baptized in the name of Jesus but they didn’t have the Spirit. To be born again one needs to both the water and spirit.
Christian Witnesses
@Andres Landeros So the Spirit gives his gifts to those who are not born again?
Andres Landeros
@Christian Witnesses what do you mean by His gifts?
Christian Witnesses
@Andres Landeros ! Corinthians 12:4-11
Andres Landeros
@Christian Witnesses if you are asking if someone can receive the spirit before being baptized then I would say yes. That is what happened to me. What I’m saying is to be born again is to be water baptized and spirit baptized. Water and spirit. Acts 2:38
Christian Witnesses
@Andres Landeros Does the Spirit give His gifts from 1 Corinthian 12:4-11 to those who are not born again?
Andres Landeros
@Christian Witnesses yes it’s possible to have those gifts before you are baptized in water but in the case of Corinthians Paul was writing to people who were born again of both water and spirit. To be born again is to be baptized in water and spirit. Not one only but both. So if someone has the gifts of the spirit doesn’t mean that they are born again if they haven’t been baptized in water in Jesus name. For example in Acts 10 they spoke in tongues but they were not water baptized yet. This is why Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus. In Acts 8 they were water baptized but they didn’t have the spirit yet. In both cases they needed to complete their born again experience of water and spirit like Jesus said in John 3:5.
Christian Witnesses
@Andres Landeros Were the people who spoke in tongues that needed to be baptized in Acts 10:47-48 saved before speaking in tongues?
Andres Landeros
@Christian Witnesses no they weren’t born again. They weren’t born of water or spirit yet. You can’t be saved without being born again according to Jesus.
Andres Landeros
That is why when they heard the word they received the spirit and spoke in tongues and Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus.
